TM.87 — Application to Replace a Lost or Damaged Passport / Transfer Visa Stamps

Used by a foreigner whose passport has been lost, stolen, or damaged to transfer the existing visa and entry stamps from the old (or police-reported) passport to a newly issued passport, so that the foreigner's permission-to-stay continues without interruption.

    Immigration
Free. Some Immigration offices charge a small administrative copy fee (typically THB 100 or less) but the form itself is free.

    When Used

After the foreigner has reported the loss/theft to the Thai police (police report or 'bai jaeng') and obtained a new passport from their embassy. The TM.87 transfers the current entry stamp, visa, re-entry permit, and (where applicable) extension stamp from the old passport (or police report attesting to its loss) into the new passport. Without this step the foreigner has a new passport with no Thai visa — they would be treated as having no permission-to-stay and would face overstay consequences.

    Who Files

The foreigner personally, at the Immigration office having jurisdiction over their address.

    Fee & Logistics

    Fee

Free. Some Immigration offices charge a small administrative copy fee (typically THB 100 or less) but the form itself is free.

    Processing Time

Same day in most provincial offices; up to 1–2 hours at Chaengwattana depending on queue.

    Where Filed

Local Immigration office having jurisdiction over the foreigner's registered address (TM.30 address).

    Field-by-Field Walkthrough

    Applicant's Identity

    Required

Full name, nationality, date of birth as shown on both old and new passports — names must match.

    Old Passport Details

    Required

Number, issue date, expiry date, and country of issue of the lost/damaged/expired passport.

    New Passport Details

    Required

Number, issue date, expiry date, and country of issue of the newly issued passport.

    Reason for Replacement

    Required

Lost, stolen, damaged, or expired. Each requires a different supporting document.

Police Report Reference (if lost or stolen)

    (เลขที่ใบแจ้งความ)
    Optional

Report number and date from the Thai police station that took the report.

    Current Visa / Extension Information

    Required

Visa class, 'admitted until' date, and re-entry permit if any — to be transferred to the new passport.

    Common Mistakes

    • Travelling on the new passport before transferring the visa — the foreigner has no permission-to-stay until the transfer is complete.
    • Failing to report the loss to Thai police promptly — Immigration requires the report for lost/stolen passports.
    • Forgetting to transfer the re-entry permit — meaning the next exit will lose the long-stay permission even though the visa was transferred.
    • Going to Immigration before the embassy has issued the new passport (no new passport, no transfer possible).

    Penalty for Non-Compliance

No direct penalty for failing to file TM.87, but the practical consequence is that the foreigner will be treated as having no valid visa in the new passport — leading to fines for unauthorised stay (Section 81: THB 500/day, max THB 20,000) and potential re-entry bans.

This walkthrough summarises the practical filing requirements for a Thai government form as a starting point. Fees, procedures, and required documents change without notice — always verify with the issuing authority before filing.
