TM.7 — Application for Extension of Temporary Stay
The principal form by which a foreigner already in Thailand applies to extend the permission-to-stay attached to an existing visa — for example, 1-year retirement extensions, marriage extensions, business extensions, education extensions, and 30-day tourist extensions.
When Used
Used to extend an existing permission-to-stay before it expires. The application is filed during a window typically opening 30 days before expiry (longer for some categories). The foreigner's permission-to-stay must still be valid on the day of filing — overstay before filing causes automatic rejection. TM.7 is also used to convert short-stay visas (tourist, visa exempt) into a 60-day extension on family-visit grounds or a 30-day tourist extension. The supporting evidence varies significantly by extension category and is published in Police Order 327/2557 (and its successors).
Who Files
The foreigner personally. Powers of attorney are accepted for some categories (notably retirement extensions where the foreigner is hospitalised), but Immigration generally requires in-person presentation, photograph, and signature.
Fee & Logistics
THB 1,900 for most extension categories (retirement, marriage, business, ED). THB 1,900 for the 30-day tourist extension. Re-entry permit (TM.8) is separately purchased.
Same day for straightforward retirement/marriage extensions in most provincial offices; up to 30-day 'under consideration' (รับเรื่องไว้พิจารณา) stamp at Chaengwattana for business or marriage extensions requiring verification visits.
In person at the Immigration office having jurisdiction over the foreigner's registered address. There is no online submission of TM.7 in 2026. Bangkok foreigners file at Chaengwattana (Immigration Division 1); provinces have their own immigration offices.
Filing Method
- In-person at Immigration Bureau (no postal or online filing)

Field-by-Field Walkthrough
Applicant's Identity
(ผู้ขอ)Full name, nationality, date of birth, passport number, place of birth — must match passport exactly.
Current Address in Thailand
(ที่อยู่ในประเทศไทย)Must match the TM.30 currently on file. Mismatches are a leading cause of rejection.
Ground for Extension
(เหตุผลในการขออยู่ต่อ)The specific category requested: retirement (Sec 2.22), marriage to Thai (Sec 2.18), business (Sec 2.1), education (Sec 2.20), medical, etc. The category determines which evidence is required.
Length of Extension Requested
Typically 1 year for retirement, marriage, business; 30 days for tourist extension; varies for medical and education.
Thai Sponsor / Employer / Spouse Details
For marriage and business extensions, full details of the Thai spouse or the Thai employer including ID/registration number, address, and occupation.
Declaration & Signature
Applicant signs to confirm all information is true. False statements may be prosecuted under Section 78 of the Immigration Act.
Common Mistakes
- Filing too early (some categories accept only within 30 days of expiry).
- TM.30 on file shows a different address — Immigration will refuse to process until the TM.30 is updated.
- For retirement: failing to season the THB 800,000 in a Thai bank for the required 2/3/12-month windows.
- For marriage: bringing only the marriage certificate without the Thai spouse's ID card and household registration.
Legal Basis
Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979), Section 35; Police Order 327/2557 (2014) and its successor orders setting out the category-by-category requirements.
Penalty for Non-Compliance
If the foreigner overstays the visa rather than extending, Section 81 imposes a fine of THB 500 per day up to a maximum of THB 20,000, plus potential ban from re-entry for 1, 3, 5 or 10 years depending on the length of overstay.
