    TM.86 — Application for Re-entry Permit

Application by which a foreigner with a valid long-stay permission-to-stay preserves that permission across a departure from Thailand. Without a re-entry permit, the long-stay permission lapses on exit and the foreigner must re-apply for a fresh visa from outside the country.

    Immigration
    THB 1,000 for a SINGLE re-entry permit. THB 3,800 for a MULTIPLE re-entry permit.

    When Used

Applied for before any departure from Thailand by a foreigner holding a valid Non-Immigrant visa or extension of stay (retirement, marriage, business, education, etc.) who intends to return and continue using the same permission-to-stay. Re-entry permits come in two flavours: SINGLE (one re-entry) and MULTIPLE (unlimited re-entries until the underlying permission-to-stay expires). Most foreigners apply at the airport on the day of departure; experienced applicants apply at the local Immigration office in advance to avoid airport queues.

    Who Files

The foreigner personally. Photo and signature are taken at the counter; no power-of-attorney filings.

    Fee & Logistics

    Fee

    THB 1,000 for a SINGLE re-entry permit. THB 3,800 for a MULTIPLE re-entry permit.

    Processing Time

Same-day issuance. At the airport, approximately 30 minutes including queue; at Immigration offices, approximately 60–90 minutes.

    Where Filed

Immigration counters at all international airports (Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, U-Tapao, Krabi, Hat Yai, Samui) or at any Immigration office.

    Field-by-Field Walkthrough

    Personal Details

    (ข้อมูลส่วนตัว)
    Required

Full name, nationality, date of birth, passport number — copied from the passport.

    Type of Re-entry Permit

    (ประเภท)
    Required

SINGLE (one re-entry) or MULTIPLE (unlimited within the validity of the underlying permission-to-stay). Tick one box.

    Current Visa / Permission Details

    Required

Visa class and 'admitted until' date — must still be valid on the date of the re-entry application.

    Date of Intended Departure

    (วันที่เดินทางออก)
    Required

The date the foreigner intends to leave Thailand. The re-entry permit only protects the permission-to-stay if exit and re-entry both occur within the underlying validity.

    Date of Intended Return

    Optional

Optional but useful; must be before the underlying permission-to-stay expires.

    Signature

    Required

Applicant signs in the presence of the Immigration officer.

    Common Mistakes

    • Leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit and assuming the visa survives — the long-stay permission lapses on exit.
    • Buying a SINGLE permit when planning multiple trips during a 1-year extension; the MULTIPLE is normally cheaper than two singles.
    • Applying too late at the airport and missing the flight.
    • Forgetting that the re-entry permit cannot extend the underlying permission-to-stay — if the permission-to-stay expires while the foreigner is abroad, the re-entry permit is worthless.

    Penalty for Non-Compliance

No criminal penalty — the consequence is administrative: loss of long-stay permission and the need to apply for a fresh visa abroad. For foreigners on a 1-year retirement or marriage extension, this can be costly and time-consuming.

This walkthrough summarises the practical filing requirements for a Thai government form as a starting point. Fees, procedures, and required documents change without notice — always verify with the issuing authority before filing.
