Social Security Act, contributions, benefits, foreigner coverage.
Overview
Thailand's social security system is governed by the Social Security Act B.E. 2533 (1990) and administered by the Social Security Office (SSO). The system covers employees in establishments with 1 or more employees, providing benefits for illness, maternity, disability, death, child allowance, old age pension, and unemployment. Contributions are shared equally between employer, employee, and government at 5% each of wages (capped at THB 15,000). Foreign workers with valid work permits are required to participate in the social security system with the same rights and obligations as Thai workers.
