    Financial Fraud

    ATM & Credit Card Skimming Scam

    Criminals install skimming devices on ATMs and payment terminals to steal card data, especially in tourist areas.

    Estimated losses: THB 10,000 – 200,000 per victim • Prevalence: Common in tourist areas of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket

    How It Works

    Skimming device installed over the ATM card slot reads your card data

    Hidden camera or fake keypad captures your PIN

    3

    Cloned card is created and used for unauthorized withdrawals

    Some scams involve distraction — someone 'helps' you at the ATM while accomplice installs device

    Warning Signs

    ATM card slot looks loose or different from other machines

    Unusual attachment around the keypad area

    Someone loitering near ATMs offering to 'help'

    ATM in isolated or poorly lit location

    Multiple failed transactions before it 'works'

    What To Do

    ✓ Use ATMs inside banks during business hours
    ✓ Cover the keypad with your hand when entering PIN
    ✓ Check for loose fittings on card slot before inserting
    ✓ Enable transaction alerts on your banking app
    ✓ If card is swallowed by machine, call your bank immediately — do NOT leave to 'get help'

    How to Report

    Call your bank's fraud hotline immediately to block the card
    File police report at nearest station
    Report to Tourist Police: 1155
