Consumer Protection Violation Penalties in Thailand
Penalties for businesses violating Thai consumer protection laws, including false advertising, unsafe products, unfair contracts, and failure to comply with OCPB orders.
Overview
Thailand's consumer protection framework is enforced through multiple agencies: the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), and the Consumer Protection Court. The Product Liability Act B.E. 2551 (2008) introduced strict liability for unsafe products, meaning consumers do not need to prove negligence — only that the product was defective and caused harm. The Consumer Protection Court charges no filing fees and can award punitive damages up to twice the actual damages.
