    The question

How do I report a romance scam to Thai police?

You have two routes: file in person at a police station, or file online through the Thai Cyber Crime Centre. For romance scams that involve money transferred from Thai bank accounts, the online route is faster and gives you the best chance of freezing funds.

Route 1 — Online via TCCT. The Thailand Cybercrime Centre (ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการความมั่นคงปลอดภัยทางไซเบอร์) operates a 24/7 portal at thaipoliceonline.go.th and a hotline on 1441. The portal accepts evidence in English. Within 72 hours of the report, a case officer is assigned and — critically — banks are notified to freeze the recipient account under the Emergency Decree on Measures for the Prevention and Suppression of Technological Crimes B.E. 2566 (2023). Speed matters: funds often move out of the receiving account within hours.

Route 2 — In person at a police station. File a complaint (แจ้งความ) at the police station with jurisdiction over either (a) your residence or (b) the location where the offence occurred. Bring:

    • Your passport (original + two photocopies of the picture page and current entry stamp).
    • Bank statements showing each transfer, marked with the date and recipient account.
    • Screenshots of conversations, dating profiles, and any documents the scammer sent (fake medical bills, “customs fees,” etc.) — printed, with timestamps.
    • The recipient’s name and bank account number.

You are entitled to an interpreter under Section 13 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Ask for a copy of the daily report (บันทึกประจำวัน) showing your complaint was logged — this is the document your bank and embassy will request.

Realistic expectations. Recovery rates for romance scams are low (typically 5–15%), but reporting matters: it triggers the freeze that protects others, contributes to international intelligence sharing, and creates the paper trail your home-country tax authority may require to claim the loss as bad debt.

If the scammer is overseas, also report to your home-country fraud agency and the platform where you met (Tinder, Facebook, LINE, etc.). Many platforms have direct law-enforcement liaison channels that respond faster than diplomatic routes.
