Complete checklist of documents needed to apply for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) for remote workers, digital nomads, and freelancers.
Document Checklist
Valid passport with at least 6 months validity and 2 blank pages
Some embassies require 12 months validity — check with your specific embassy
Completed visa application form
Download from the Royal Thai Embassy website for your country
Two recent passport-sized photos (4x6cm)
White background, taken within the last 6 months
Proof of remote work or freelance income
Employment contract with foreign company, freelance contracts, client invoices, or business registration
Bank statements showing sufficient funds
Typically 3-6 months of statements. No fixed minimum but THB 500,000+ recommended
Health insurance covering Thailand
Must cover the duration of stay. Minimum USD 50,000 coverage recommended. COVID-19 coverage may be required by some embassies
Proof of accommodation in Thailand
Hotel booking, rental agreement, or invitation letter from host. Can be for initial period only.
Flight itinerary or booking confirmation
Round-trip or onward travel. Some embassies accept booking confirmations (not yet paid)
Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume
Showing professional background relevant to your remote work claim
Cover letter explaining purpose of visit
Describe your remote work, why Thailand, and planned activities. Some embassies request this.
Company letter confirming remote work arrangement
From your employer stating you can work remotely. Not needed for self-employed applicants.
Tax residency certificate from home country
Some embassies may request this to verify you're a taxpayer somewhere
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Applying at the wrong Thai embassy — you must apply at the embassy serving your country of nationality or legal residence
Insufficient proof of income or work — vague freelance claims without contracts or invoices
Health insurance that doesn't cover Thailand specifically or has insufficient coverage
Passport validity too short — some embassies strictly enforce the 6-12 month requirement
Not booking accommodation for the initial period — 'I'll find something when I arrive' is not accepted
Confusing DTV with a work permit — DTV allows remote work for foreign employers but NOT employment by Thai companies

Apply at least 3-4 weeks before planned travel to allow processing time
The DTV is a 5-year multiple entry visa but each entry allows a maximum stay of 180 days
You can extend each 180-day stay by an additional 180 days at immigration in Thailand
Keep digital and physical copies of all submitted documents
If self-employed, gather as many client contracts and invoices as possible to demonstrate legitimate income
Consider getting a Thai bank account after arrival for easier long-term financial management
