    TL;DR

Thai nationals can sponsor foreigners for several visa categories under the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979): Non-O (spouse), Non-O (parent of Thai child), Non-O (Thai-national parent of foreigner), and guarantor support for various visa types. The Thai sponsor must provide identity documents, household registration (tabian baan), and financial evidence consistent with the visa category.

    Financial Evidence

    • Non-O Spouse extension: THB 400,000 in foreigner's account for 2 months OR THB 40,000 monthly income.
    • Non-O Parent of Thai child: THB 400,000 or income equivalent.
    • Tourist support: not strictly required but commonly provided.

    Sponsorship Letter Format

    1. Sponsor's full name, ID number, address.
    2. Foreigner's name, passport number, nationality.
    3. Relationship.
    4. Purpose of visit / stay.
    5. Sponsor's commitment to support during stay.
    6. Signed + copy of Thai ID + tabian baan attached.

    Common Mistakes

    • Outdated tabian baan or ID.
    • Sponsor not understanding that financial-support claims may be verified.
    • Mismatched address between sponsor and foreigner's TM30.
    • Sponsor signing for multiple unrelated foreigners (red flag).

    FAQs

    1. Can the same sponsor support multiple foreigners?

For genuine relationships (e.g., multiple family members), yes. Repeated patterns of unrelated sponsorships are scrutinised.

    2. Does sponsor liability extend to overstay?

Sponsors are not statutorily liable but may face Immigration questioning if patterns suggest visa abuse.
