A Thai marriage certificate is obtained by registering your marriage at the local Amphur (district office). Religious or traditional ceremonies have no legal standing without this registration.

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Embassy Affirmation (1-2 weeks)

Visit your embassy to obtain an "Affirmation of Freedom to Marry"

Requirements vary by country — contact your embassy first

Some embassies require appointments booked weeks in advance

Fee: varies by country (typically THB 1,500 - 5,000)

Step 2: MFA Certification (3-5 business days)

Take the Affirmation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Legalization Division certifies the document

Located at Chaengwattana Government Complex or Sanam Luang

Step 3: Thai Translation

Have the certified Affirmation translated into Thai

Use a certified/sworn translator

The translation must also be certified by MFA
