Police Report Draft (Bilingual English/Thai)
A bilingual police report (บันทึกประจำวัน) template for reporting incidents at a Thai police station (สถานีตำรวจ). Foreigners often struggle with the language barrier; this parallel English/Thai format ensures the report accurately reflects your account before signing.
When to Use
When reporting theft, assault, fraud, scams, lost items, or traffic accidents at a Thai police station. Always insist on filing a formal report (ใบแจ้งความ) rather than just a daily log entry (บันทึกประจำวัน) — the formal report is needed for insurance claims and prosecution.
Key Clauses
Complainant Identity (ผู้ร้องทุกข์)
Full passport name, nationality, passport number, Thai address, and contact details.
Incident Type (ประเภทคดี)
Classify as theft (ลักทรัพย์), assault (ทำร้ายร่างกาย), fraud (ฉ้อโกง), accident (อุบัติเหตุ), or lost item (ของหาย).
Date, Time, Location (วัน เวลา สถานที่)
Be as specific as possible. GPS coordinates if relevant. Include witnesses.
Narrative of Events (รายละเอียดเหตุการณ์)
Chronological account in your own words. Translator should provide verbatim Thai translation — do not let officer paraphrase.
Right to Interpreter
Foreigners have the right to a qualified interpreter under Section 13 Criminal Procedure Code. If none is provided, request one in writing before signing.
Right to Read Before Signing
Insist on reading the Thai version (or having it read back to you) before signing. Once signed, the Thai text is binding.
Damages or Loss Claim (ค่าเสียหาย)
Itemise lost/damaged property with estimated values. Attach receipts where possible.
Right to Certified Copy (Section 124 CPC)
Under Section 124 of the Criminal Procedure Code (ประมวลกฎหมายวิธีพิจารณาความอาญา), you are entitled to a certified copy of the report. Request it on the day.
Witness Information
Names, contact details, and brief account of what each witness saw.
Signature Block
Your signature, the officer's signature with badge number, and station stamp.
Warnings
NEVER sign a document you cannot read or have not had translated.
If the officer refuses to provide an interpreter or a copy of the report, request to speak to a senior officer or contact your embassy.
A 'บันทึกประจำวัน' (daily log entry) is NOT the same as a formal complaint (ใบแจ้งความ) — insurance claims and prosecutions require the latter.
Time limits apply: criminal complaints for compoundable offences must generally be filed within 3 months under Penal Code Section 96.
